#SBPT-240 – ‘68-’72 CHEVELLE SMALL BLOCK – SB Pro Tour header for stock chassis
$1,950.00 – $4,200.00
Header Specs:
This header is designed for any tube size up to 2” with any collector size up to 4”. All tubes are inside the frame and we are able to fit factory air conditioning if needed. The engine MUST stay in the stock location.
What Fits:
The header will fit with side motor mounts or motor plates. This header was designed with Power Master #9540 or #9500 or a CVR #5323 Nippondenso style starter and will NOT fit with a stock GM full sized starter, or a Hitachi type mini starter. This header was designed for aftermarket oil pans with side sump kick outs. The available room measuring from the side of a stock oil pan is 2 ½” on the passenger side and 3” at the top to 5” at the bottom on the driver side. With no kick out on the driver side of the oil pan the oil filter. If the oil pan kick oil pan is under the filter the oil filter will be trapped and you will have to use a remote oil filter. With a kick out pan the filter may or may not be trapped depending on the size of the kick out under the filter. Ground clearance is excellent the bottom of the header is ½” higher than the bottom of most aftermarket oil pans and slightly below a stock pan. Spark plug access is very good with angle plug heads, but tighter with straight plugs. This header WILL fit factory air conditioning, clutch linkage and a power brake booster. It was NOT designed for column shifter linkage. If your car has a Lakewood style scatter shield you may have to slightly grind the outer lip of the scatter shield under the starter area for header clearance, as this header is kept up as high as possible for ground clearance. (contact tech for more details)
Note: Always check all brake lines for proper clearance around header.
We offer Power Master #9540 starters.
Installation: Pro-Tour style.
Passenger side: Remove starter and the header will install easily from the bottom, depending on the size of your oil pan kick out. Reinstall starter before bolting header in place.
Driver side: remove spark plugs, oil filter and clutch linkage. Raise the engine 1 ½” to 2” for the header to get past the steering column. Install the header from the bottom.
Race version: If this header is built in the race version it will be much easier to install. The race header has a slip on collector and individual tubes, so you would install the front tube, then the center pair, then the rear tube, then the collector slips on and bolts together.
